Camp Albert Sidney Johnston started several years ago in Tehachapi California by Commander William Reed. He and Kenneth Ramsey started the camp on a shoestring and we held our first meeting at Kelcy's restaraunt in downtown Tehachapi. To date the active members in the camp are all charter members of the camp. Unfortunately a few years back we suffered the loss of a great man, Commander Reed. He passed and Kenneth Ramsey picked up the torch as has always been the case. Mr. Ramsey is one of the most energetic, pro-southern men I have ever had the pleasure to befriend. Here a couple years ago, our then commander, was diagnosed with the horrible disease of pancreatic cancer and we lost Mr. Longbottom back in April. We held a emergency meeting out in Camp Hamilton just North of Bakersfield and had a vote. The results of the vote were that Mr. Jon Fowler would be our Commander, Mr. Collin Bentley the Adjutant and Mr. Calrton Bentley Treasurer (At a later date Collin Bentley was given the added responsibility of Treasurer and Carlton was voted to be the Color Sergeant). We thought that it might be good simply to hold the meetings out at Camp Hamilton but in time that seemed to be too far out of the way and many people were not familiar with this area. As providence worked out Adjutant Bentley obtained a parcel of land right in the middle of Oildale and so we changed the meeting to 411 Woodrow every second Saturday at 09:00 AM (except in the Winter months we will be adjusting for the weather).
We built a little shanty clubhouse and that is where we meet for the time being. Eventually we are hoping to have a meeting hall built on the property and a learning Center about the War of Northern Aggression. We welcome any and all donations to this cause and below is the camps email and mailing address so that if you wish to donate any monies you can either send a check to the mailing address or send money via PayPal (send to scvcamp2048@yahoo.com). Any contributions will be greatly appreciated, even a couple bucks as we understand the economy is tight right now.
The other event that occurs is we have church (Church in the Biker sense of the word, i.e., a meeting--in the Motorcycle culture Church has always meant a meeting for a motorcylce club) for the Mechanized Cavalry after the Camp meeting. For one to attend this they have to be a member of the SCV and a member of the Mechanized Cavalry, it is a closed meeting for members only. The Mechanized Cavalry is an auxillory group that cropped out of the SCV for members that enjoy riding motorcycles. There are members that do not ride (dismounted) so owning a bike is not a mandatory requirement for being a member (there are dismounted cavalry/Infantry members). It is encouraged that you get a bike eventually so that you can participate in rides. Our goal is to act as a recruiting tool for the SCV and for us whom like to ride be a part of a group that is biker friendly. This I believe was primarily to avoid conflict with other clubs that may not appreciate another club coming along flying colors, so technically the Mechanized Cavalry is an auxillory of the SCV.
So we are at a very dynamic point of the Camp and an exciting time to become member! Thank your for your willingness to learn more about the SCV and the Mechanized Cavalry hope to see you at a meeting. Please do not hesitate to e-mail anyone of us or call to get more information:

We as a camp are devoted to preserving the good memory of those whom fought and died for the cause to restore the ideals of our Forefathers as was the case. We wish to clarify what the war of Northern Aggression was about and how after the War of Northern Aggression our dear Country changed into a very centralized government that is in direct violation of the Constitution of the United States, ultimately the South was Right! As citizens of this great Nation it pains us to see the Constitution trampled upon so readily and often. Though we are not political nor will we tolerate a person being over bearing and trying to make the SCV into a political group we recognize that history in many cases will show the demonsterable appetite for a centralized government and the fact that we have been in many cases taxed against our will and without representation! Our forefathers would be rolling over in their graves with some of the laws that have been imposed upon the citizens of this great Nation.
We hold monthly meetings and we are a part of several other events. For years we had a float in Tehachapi Christmas parade. The first year we placed first! We sometimes will have a booth at a local gun shows and several other events. Now that the Mechanized Cavalry is here we plan to go on toy runs and other runs and events that are oriented towards bikers..
We are not a White Suprmeist group as the South actually had a much more diverse class of soldiers, e.g., white, black, Mexican, Cherokee and so forth. Despite what the lying victors have taught in the schools. The War was fought to preserve States Rights, slavery was certainly an issue but that was not the only, nor the most important issue, as General Grant had slaves throughout the war as did many Northerners. The percentage of Southerners that actually owned slaves is very small. Consider the number of folks that own high dollar cars or live in large homes. Back in those days the price of a slave was not a nominal fee, nor was the cost associated with feeding, housing and the other cost associated with caring for another human being.
If one was to read a modern history book one might think that everyone had slaves but this simply is not the case. Those who had wealth had the ability to own slaves, yet that was not always the case. Just as today we are in a foreign country for several reasons one cannot be so nieve to think that this as the only issue of the day!
So if you are a proud decendent of Southern roots and want to join an organization that is pro-South and is wanting to preserve the memory of our Confederate Ancestors than the SCV is perfect for you. If you are looking for a group that is based on hate for other races than this is not the organization for you. We firmly believe in heritage not hate!
There are members of the SCV of various racial and ethnic backgrounds. As noted, the war was fought by a multitude of people from differing backgrounds and so we have white members, Native American members, etc. Actually a little historical tid bit, the Confederate Army was the first to have a "black" officer! We do not want to discourage a person but we have to put this out front so that there is no misunderstanding. Many people have racial views but that is not the focus of our organization. Simply realize that this is about the memory and preservation of our culture as Southern Folk regardles of race or ethnicity. Understand that becoming a member of the SCV and the Camp you represent the organization so blind predjudice and ideas based ignorace become disruptive to the Group Activities the person will be politely asked to remain focused on the goals and ideals of the camp but certainly there will be no subterfusion or subversion. The SCV has a strong stance against Hate Groups.
